Episode 40 [Final episode]

Finally, the end. The really final episode. I felt it was such a long and winding road and finally the absolute end. I don't think I have ever been happier at a series ending. Not that I hate this series but somehow there's this sense of closure and not wanting to see the sight of it anymore. So if there's a Heart Of Greed 3 : Sunlight Magnified or whatever, I think I will steer clear for a while until I feel the urge to watch it.

Anyway continuing with the dramatic end.. and may I say, emphasise on DRAMAtic end.

Ka Mei revealed the truth of grandma's death, confirmed by grandma's sis who slapped her son for trying to stop her from revealing the truth. Ka then revealed it was grandma's sis who has been feeding him info, such as this press conference. Hung denied it all and said "If I was the one who pushed her, why would she speak with me for 30 minutes? WHY? WHY?!" and grandma's sis said "I don't know!!" and I think Cho Ba asked her "What did mother said to you for that 30 minutes?" and Hung angrily said "She talked about the past!" and she walked away challenging them to call the police and Hor Ma simply said "Call the police".

Ka Mei returned home telling everyone police asked the same question; if grandma was pushed by Hung why would grandma's dying wish was to talk to her for 30 minutes? No one can answer that and they all asked Hou to ask Sum but he revealed Sum and him got some problems. Shocking time for everyone as he revealed Dr Ling is back.

Sum who was in a trip with Ling received a call from Hou who told her reluctantly "I am reluctant to tell you this but I think you should know. Grandma was pushed by your mother and police may charge her with murder" and Sum said "No, mother could never be so evil! No!" but Hou asked "Can you ask her what was grandma's dying wish? We really want to know" and Sum agreed to ask Hung and she returned to HK, faced her mother and asked "Mother, did you push grandma? Tell me the truth!" and Hung said "You rather believe that fatty (Hor Ma) and that nosy son of hers than your own mother?" and Sum tearfully said "I don't know who to believe! Hor Ma has treated me so well, she won't lie about such things!" and Hung said "You're my daughter. Your father left us, my one leg was dangling out of the window and the only reason I didn't jump and lived on through all hardship is because of you." but Sum said "Mother, we owe it to them.." and Hung said "I deserved that money, and I am leaving them to you!" and Sum said "I don't want all that money mother, they're not mine!" but Hung convinced her otherwise when she said "If I pushed her why would she speak to me for 30 minutes?" and Sum tearfully cried "I DON'T KNOW!". Then Hung said "Sum I know this is too much to ask of you but when the police question you, can you tell them grandma was shaking and fell on her own?" and Sum now crying really hard said "What? But mother, when I arrived, grandma was already on the floor.." and Hung said "Sum, I know but do it for me" and Sum cried "Mother I don't want to listen anymore. I don't want to hear! I am leaving with Chi Soon. I am going to marry him, open a pharmaceutical company and leave. Say no more mother!" but Hung persisted "I am your mother, and you're not willing to do this for me?" and Sum cried and cried.

Sum was asked to go for an interview with the policem, she walked out and Hung asked her if all was ok and she said yes. Hung happily said "Now I can arrange your marriage with Dr Ling in peace! I plan to give 70% of my shares to you as a wedding gift and give you money to open that pharmaceutical company" and Sum smiled.

Something fishy here eh?

Sum saw Hou I think, or was this before? Can't remember. Anyway he did see Sum with Dr Ling and Hou gracefully congratulated them and said to Ling "Can Sum come by for dinner sometime? We are after all Ka Hou Yuet Yuen Hing Chung Chau and we can't do without Chau. I promise I will never be the 3rd party" and Ling agreed and Sum looked stricken. And so they left and Hou looked stricken.

Sum was trying on wedding dresses and in the dressing room when she heard Hor Ma's voice. Hung coldly asked "What are you doing here? To congratulate me on my daughter's wedding?" and Hor Ma said "Hung, you telling lies in court making as if I am the mistress in the case I can understand. I can even understand you wanting to deny Cho his share in the company. I can even understand you are capable of pushing old Mrs Kam down the stairs. But you have far exceeded my expectations when you asked Sum to lie for you. That I never expected you to do. Sum is a nice decent girl and I remember you made her work her way up, to pay for her own living expenses in England, to teach her the value of hard work. You have succeeded in that, you have succeeded in raising a thoughtful decent girl who became a doctor. For that I congratulate you. But you asking her to lie.. I never expected that Hung, that you would use your own daughter for your own gain. Remember ---? A hard core drug addict? And yet when her daughter took one drug, she banned her daughter, raised hell on that. And that is a hard core drug addict! Hung, how could you? How can you ask Sum to lie for you?" and Sum ran out and cried "Hor Ma, I know you have been good to me, I appreciate that. But she is my mother, you're not my mother" and Hor Ma looked at Sum and said angrily "You have disappointed me" and Hor Ma walked away, Hung looked triumphant and Sum looked stricken.

For that one moment, Hung is probably the worst mother.

Anyway Hung signed the 70% shared to Sum with Ling in sight and told her "Now you own 55% of the shares in the company. The company is yours to do as you wish" and Sum smiled and Ling smiled and I raised my eyebrow.

Ka and all were upset at the turn of events when Hor Ma or someone received an sms from Sum and they all looked shocked.

At night, they all arrived at the mansion. Sum explained to Hung "Since Cho Ba has 20% in the company, I thought he should have some idea what I have in mind" and Hung agreed. They all sat down, even the employees were there (except those traitors in the court) and Hung said "I am happy to announce 2 great news. One, the fearsome lady boss whose click of the heels frightened the employees is finally really tired and is therefore retiring. Second, Sum is now the new boss of Ka Hou Yuet Yuen. I will appoint someone to run the company on her behalf as she will marry Dr Ling and move to England and open a pharmaceutical company. Let's congratulate them! Now, I shall let Sum speak..."

Sum moved forward as all looked at her and she said "First of all, thank you very much. I grew up eating Ka Hou Yuet Yuen pastries and I remember I was happiest on school holidays because I could help mother with the shop. I remember there was a fat lady boss who often stuffed me with the most delicious biscuits and to Hor Ma, I would like to thank her for the great biscuits (Hor Ma looked surprised as her name was mentioned, Hung looked surprised as well). Now I have 55% control over the company. I always thought Ka Hou Yuet Yuen is the best. At 2pm today I received the shares. At 4pm today, I have asked my lawyer to transfer the shares to the real owners of Ka Hou Yuet Yuen, that is Hor Ma and Cho Ba" and pandemonium ensued! Hung was like WHAT?! and Hor Ma was like WHAT?! and Sum gave a document to Hor Ma and Hor Ma said "Sum are you sure?" and Sum said "Hor Ma, Cho Ba, I am so sorry on behalf of my mother for robbing the 2 of you your happiness for more than a decade. These shares are yours, please do take them" and Sum said "And I am not marrying Chi Soon or opening a pharmaceutical company. Mother, my dream is to be a doctor, and I am one now. All that marriage talks are just a lie" and Hung was so angry she screamed "I did all this for you! FOR YOU! How could you betray me?!" and Sum tearfully said "Mother, you have always thought me I have to earn my way through hard work. I have never make one single pastry in Ka Hou Yuet Yuen, how can I take the company? I didn't earn it!" and Hung said "I could run the company for you!" and Sum said "Mother you took 80% away from Cho Ba, then you even tried to deny him his 20%. How much lower can you go mother? We all know Cho Ba worked very hard for that company. I may have been young but I wasn't blind. You're treating me like I am some idiotic 3 year old mother, but I can see with my own eyes, I can understand!" and Hung slapped Sum really hard and everyone was shocked (since Hung never slapped Sum) and Hung angrily said "You believed them? You believed them about grandma don't you? Answer me this; why would she spoke to me for 30 minutes? WHY? WHY???" and Sum crying said "I don't know! I don't know if you nudged her or yanked her down the stairs, I don't know how BUT I DO KNOW YOU PUSHED GRANDMA!! I know mother!!" and Hung angrily pointed to Cho Ba and gang "Fine! You wanna know what she said? She said 3 things. One, never ever let Cho and that fatty get together. So old and yet in a romance, that disgusted her! Second, never let the useless Hou to be with Sum! And third, she praised me! She said I was the best daughter in law she has ever had! EVER!! I promise myself I will never cry. I am an iron woman. I don't cry! Your betrayal, your heartlessness, won't make me shed a tear! NEVER!!!" and tearfully she ran I think upstairs. Sum fell to the sofa and cried hard as Hor Ma held her in her arms and Sum kept saying "How can mother changed into this? How can mother be like this?"

Some time later, Sum was at the back of the mansion and saw Hou. They reconciled and Dr Ling came and said "Hou, I hope you will continue to let Sum visit me and I promise I won't be the 3rd party" and Hou agreed and Ling said "Take good care of her. During the trip she couldn't stop talking about you. I congratulate the both of you" and he walked away, rather stylishly. I think that's the only time I like Dr Ling. Anyway Sum and Hou kissed.

By the way Sum did say Hung locked herself in her room.

Court building and an unknown voice said "Yan Hung is hereby found not guilty of murder (reasonable - expected that) and guilty of manslaughter (reasonable also) and therefore sentenced to 3 years imprisonment".

Wait!

3 YEARS? So short? What is a life worth? 3 short years.

In jail Hung was in a hospital bed, looking rather downtrodden. Cho Ba walked in and said "Hung, I heard from Sum you refused to eat your medicine. You're sick, you must take care of your body. Ka has great plans for the company. I will be fair to you and when you come out, the 50% shares is still yours. Hung, learn to let go. I think I learned that when I was in court and being with you has been my worst mistake but I learn to rectify my mistake. So should you. Yuen went to Thailand with me, and turned himself in to the police. He got fined and suspended sentence and I have never seen him more relaxed"

Pause here.

Again how much is a life worth? A fine and a suspended sentence. Disgusting.

"Hung you will probably be out in 2 years time. I hope to see you more relaxed then. Our relationship is truly over but I still wish you every happiness"

Hung looked at him and angrily said "You said such nice things, is that because you want to know what mother said before she died?" and Cho Ba said "No. Even my children have let go on that question. I mean what more mother would have wanted if not for our happiness?" and Hung said "She said she would never accept you and that fatty as a couple!" and Cho Ba sighed and said "Hung, have an open mind. Take good care of yourself. Goodbye" and Cho Ba left and Hung looked very very upset.

At home, Cho Ba's birthday and it was Nin Chi Yung coming back for a visit!

Oooohhh love to see him again.

Nin Chi Yung is asked by Ka to come back to run the factory and Nin Chi Yung was a great success in Australia. Auntie Sa teased him and said if it wasn't for her, he wouldn't have success. Then Auntie Sa said "Oh let me introduce, this is Yan Chi..." and Nin Chi Yung looked at Yan Chi and said "Your little brother?" and Auntie Sa bursts and said "NO! My husband!" and Nin Chi Yung shook Yan Chi's hand and said "You're an idiot marrying her!" and Sa jokingly pushed Nin Chi Yung as Yan Chi said "Wasn't there a rumour of the 2 of you?" and Sa made faces whilst Nin Chi Yung said "Which was why I went to Australia, to run away from her!"

Ha ha ha ha ha! Very funny!

Then Nin Chi Yung presented Cho Ba with the Chinese birthday cake (as in Sau Bau) and Cho Ba made a wish and everybody asked what's the wish and he said "I wish that I will be healthy and Hor Ma will die before me" and everyone was like WHAT?! and Cho Ba explained "I have been a terrible husband. I wish to make up for leaving Hor Ma and I am even eating healthily with the hope that I outlive Hor Ma so Hor Ma would never have to feel the pain of me leaving her ever again" and so everybody understood Cho Ba. And then someone suggested they play that silly game of words which was pretty horrifying to me as they wish the other die before them first. WHAT a stupid game.

What's worse? Seeing Ka Mei happily playing. Urggghhh

Then it was Ka and Yuet's story. It was Yuet's birthday and Yuet was disappointed Ka did not give her any present. To cut the long story short, they are dating and planning their lives together when slowly Ka's eyes closed and his speech slowed down. Yuet started to cry.

DID HE DIE?

4 years later, Hung looked toned down and more gentle. She told Sum she will be leaving for.. don't know where, I think Switzerland or somewhere more exotic than say Lantau Island (and I am being sarcastic here) and that she won't be back for the next few years. She also told Sum to tell Cho Ba to keep the 50% and do as he wishes. She held Sum tightly and left. In fact she made her peace and encouraged Sum to hurry for the mooncake festival dinner.

At the dinner company was a big success. We finally see Yuet heavily pregnant leaving a car and there was Ka and Yuet said Ka is now out of danger and is fine and they have 1 child and another coming. At the dinner everybody was super duper extra happy and ended the night singing "The moon represents my heart" and we see flashback of each character (die Ka Mei DIE!!) and as Sum and Hou happily sing together Sum was 3G-ing Hung who was on a plane and Hung sang along with them, contented at last.

I can only say I totally not buy into the whole Ka-Yuet romance. Suddenly a couple. I never had the impression Ka ever loved Yuet more than like a sister.

Anyway I shall summarise my thoughts in Final Thoughts.
