Episode 37

Not much happened as in nothing different except for a few scenes worth noting. Anyway tragedy in epic proportion happened tonight.

Let's get on with the easiest one.

Sum finds out from Wing Lam's mom that Wing Lam has died, CONVENIENTLY. Ling and Wing Lam did not get married. So Sum demanded to know the answer from Ling, because she almost killed patients because of him and so he explained when he was about to send Wing Lam to the airport, she revealed, and quite reluctantly that she had some incurable disease (my sis said she heard lupus) and that she was dying. She didn't want to get in his way and 7 years were the happiest with him. I tell you Wing Lam was such a decent woman. So Ling decided there and then to leave with her, he did wanted to marry her but she died before he could. He promised to take care of her for the rest of her life and I believe in a way he did fulfill his promise however short it was. Ling came back to HK for Sum because he couldn't let her go and he hugged her, she hugged him back and then Hou called and Sum lied she was at home eating and so she left.

Meanwhile Hung tried to stir things up by making wild statements about the shares and grandma and Ka both were having heart attacks. Cho Ba and Yuet were so worried but in the end Grandma and Ka were just pulling Hung's leg and Hung left fuming "YOU ARE BOTH CRAZY!!".

Grandma decided to move in with Hor Ma and she urged Cho Ba to do the same but Cho Ba said "I can't, it is inappropriate at this moment" and Ka promised Cho Ba he will find a good lawyer because the one Hung has has a reputation as a scoundrel lawyer.

Meanwhile Hung, Ka Mei and the recently bought over Tin Chi had a press conference. They were there to clarify on the gossips when Sa suddenly turned up and tookover the mike from the press. The cousin loudly said "Security, get her out of here. She has no business to be here" and Sa said "Of course I have, why are you so afraid of me? Secrets you don't want anyone to know?" and Hung said "Please leave now, this is a press conference" and the cousin said "And you are no journalist!" and Sa loudly said "Oh yes I am, I represent the First Wives' Magazine. I am here to interview the fox demon that broke the first wife's family as to her motives now. Hung, I heard you once seduced a married man from his wife and his children based on your good looks. You took away 3 children from the first wife. Now that you're old, you have lost the looks but you have yet to lose your touch as once again you now want to take away the man's fortune, all of it! How does it feel to do that?" and Tin Chi said "Sa, don't cause trouble!" and Sa said "You ungrateful spineless bastard. Shut up! You want money? You are so easily bought. How much she paid you for your dog like loyalty?!" and Ka Mei said "Mother, a final warning, if you don't leave..." and Sa said "Ka Mei, I am your mother but you prefer to stand by this woman rather than a loving family. You have no idea how lucky you are. Yuen is still waiting for you, even sis is willing to forgive you.." and Ka Mei interrupted and said "Mother, I hardly need you to tell me all these nonsense. I am being fair and I am just standing on the side of what is reasonable.." and Sa laughed bitterly and said "Good, good. When I admit I am no. 2 in making up stories and telling lies, no one dares admit being no. 1 but you my daughter have surpassed me indeed. I am not sad, I am in fact happy because from now on I can tell you in your face that I shall no longer care what you do. I shall no longer be bothered. Ka Mei, if you're in trouble, don't come running to me anymore. I am done with you. You're on your own from now on" and Sa left crying bitterly whilst Ka Mei looked shocked at her mother's statement whilst Hung smiled a satisfied smile.

Missed 20 minutes.

Grandma did end up in the hospital. She was very weak. Cho Ba, Hor Ma and gang visited her often, urged her to be well. One day I think Hor Ma came by but grandma was missing. Everybody looked for her but grandma was outside looking for old neighbourhood friends to build up Cho Ba's case. Apparently Hung's case was Cho Ba did not do anything nor contributed to the business substantially. He was eating out of her hands, out of her efforts or as Chinese says "Sik Yuen Fan" meaning eat soft rice meaning benefitting from a woman's effort/endeavour which is really the biggest insult you can hurl at any man with any sense of pride. Then Sum went home after Ling and saw Hung, Ka Mei, cousins all surrounding a figure on the floor and it was grandma herself. Grandma was admitted to the hospital and the doctor said grandma didn't know but her heart was so weak she will die within hours. Grandma didn't know and she wanted only to see Hung. Everyone wondered why but Hung, looking rather guiltily walked in and grandma weakly said "I am not dead yet. I want you to promise me 3 things, if not I will tell them what happened. One, I want you to split the company 50-50. That is the fairest of all. Second I don't want you to come between Hou and Sum. They're such a beautiful destined pair. Why would you object to Hou? And third, I don't want you to have anything to do with my funeral nor will you be listed as my daughter in law. My real daughter in law is Hor and she will make the arrangements for me. Agreed?" and Hung looked and said "Yes, sure". I tell you, grandma's gonna die anyway so whatever she says just say ok. Grandma then said "Fine, I want to see Hou" but Hung said "He is on his way" but actually Hou was outside. Half an hour passed by and the doctor confirmed grandma wouldn't have long and so Cho Ba and Hor Ma and gang rushed in past the useless cousins and useless husband of Sa and Grandma was so weak, she just pointed at Hung and then she died. Hung tried to leave but Cho Ba asked loudly "What did you talk about with mother that took so long?" but Hung refused to say and I think even Ka asked loudly "WHAT DID YOU TALKED ABOUT? WHAT?!" and Hung replied "Nostalgic stuff, we were talking about the past, ok?"

Hor Ma followed Hung into the toilet and Hor Ma gently asked "Hung, the old lady was dying, she just wanted to spend her last moments surrounded by her grandchildren. What were you both talking about that was so important to take up so much precious time?" and Hung sarcastically said "What we talked about? We talked about my past. We talked about what a good daughter in law I was..." and Hor Ma said calmly but sternly "And what else?" and Hung said "We talked about how grateful she was with me and how sorry she was that things became the way it is.." and Hor Ma asked "And?" and Hung said loudly "She told me what a great daughter in law I was and what a curse you were. She said sorry to me for the pain she caused me and she blamed all the pain on you, that you were the cause, that you were the one she despised!!" and Hor Ma looked at her and I believe Hor Ma didn't believe a single word she said.

Next episode...I think court battle where Hung openly calls Hor Ma in court FOX DEMON! SLUT! How rich of her to say all these when she herself did exactly the same thing years before.

No comments on performance. On story, I felt grandma was so naive. Also quite sad to see her go like that. Ka Mei is useless and Sa is right to outright disown her. Is it worth it? To lose your entire family and dignity for money and for respecting a cruel jealous woman like Hung.
